• Starting Fresh: Be Positive!

The new years celebrations are over, the Christmas season is ending, decorations are being put away, and normalcy (or the new normalcy) is beginning to return. For many, the new Year is all about starting fresh and beginning things anew. In our previous blog, we explored this topic some, and we return to it here to develop some of those themes further.

2020 was incredibly difficult for many of us. It presented real challenges to not just society as a whole but to every person and every family on a real and profound level. In many ways, it was a traumatic upheaval that some might compare to World War II. It’s important to remember, however, that it didn’t start out that way. In fact, 2020 started off like any other year. People travelled; they took vacations. Teachers taught in person, restaurants were open, and masks were not even a part of our daily lives or thoughts. As with all things, time brings about change.

As we start 2021, it may be  easy to feel defeated before we’ve begun. After all, there is a lot of uncertainty. Many are still working from home; many others are still looking for work. Students are still at least partially schooled from home. It would be easy to fall into a pattern of negativity. Often, we can put ourselves into a mindset and framework that we struggle to escape from.  But there is no reason to think that we can’t start anew or that 2021 won’t be something amazing and special. Think about it, no one could ever have expected 2020 to turn out the way it did. It’s important not to let our past define the people we want to be, and likewise it’s important to not let the struggles of 2020 define what our 2021 will be.

Starting fresh can be hard, but one way you might try to redefine yourself and your attitudes for 2021 is to be positive. Just by trying to think positively about change, you can start that change today. Empower Yourself : There is no doubt that every person has the power to decide what does or does not enter their body, but you also have the ability to decide what enters your mind and how you choose to perceive it and respond to it. Simply by being positive, seeking to look at something differently, and by accepting there are things that can’t be changed but that you can work around, you can dramatically change your life!.

One thing we at Cornerstone specialize in is helping our patients overcome their anxiety, their stress, and their vices. Our staff is trained to deal with addiction issues, and we focus on helping you overcome them. The new year is often a time when we try to make changes and start over fresh. While every day is an opportunity for us to make the decision with conviction to change, we at Cornerstone recognize how difficult that can be. We are here for you and want to help you in your journey.  Addiction is one of the most difficult things to overcome, and its even more difficult to do alone. Know that you are not alone.

Also know that because of COVID-19, you might feel as though there are changes you want to make, but think you can’t because of pandemic restrictions. Cornerstone is fully open and available for telehealth video appointments, so you can rest easy knowing we are here to accommodate your preferences and schedule. Don’t let the pandemic stop you from starting fresh, beginning anew, and making the positive changes you know you need to make.

And remember, as we said, we are here to help! If you want our help to make changes, overcome addiction, repair relationships with loved ones, or even to help get out of the rut you find yourself in, our trained counselors are here for you. Contact us today.
