As one of our most experienced therapists, Mary holds her MSW from Barry University. She has an extensive background and experience working with clients who struggle with trauma and addictions. Below, you’ll find a brief Q & A that will provide you with insights into her therapy approaches. If you have any other questions or want to start a conversation to see if therapy is right for you, please feel free to email her.

If a person struggles with anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, or addiction, can EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) help?

I am an EMDR Trained Trauma Therapist and worked as a Trauma Therapist at Behavioral Health of The Palm Beaches Addiction Treatment Center for over a decade. I am also a Certified Volunteer with HAP (Humanitarian Assistance Program) where she utilized EMDR. In my experience, EMDR has profound benefits in helping clients see real change and growth. It’s a common misconception that EMDR is new; in fact, I have been a practitioner of EMDR for nearly twenty years to tremendous effect! My background and expertise in EMDR can be a great benefit to you if you struggle with trauma and addiction. EMDR can also have profound impact for people struggling with OCD, ADD, grief and anxiety.

What if your family member is the one with the trauma and addiction , or you are struggling to feel loved or belonging within your family?

In addition to my work with EMDR, I have extensive experience working with the Family Education and Support Group. I have helped the families of patients gain insight into the family dynamics of addictions. If you or a loved one have struggled with significant trauma or addiction, and you find yourself trying to understand how it affects relationships, I can help you today!

If a person struggles with OCD, ADD, or Anxiety and codependency, what can therapy do to help?

A very common question I get is about OCD, ADD, and anxiety. Therapy can have life-changing effects. Often, people with OCD or ADD feel as though simply using medications doesn’t help them cope with their underlying issues. Through therapy, you can find the root cause of a lot of these struggles and work to make the changes in yourself that you want to see. Anxiety can often lead to codependency and these issues can have a real impact on the way we relate to our loved ones and the ways we think of or treat ourselves. Therapy can help you to get to the root of your problems and help you to repair repressed wounds.

If you’re looking for someone who has experience helping with grief or loss, and someone who can help with issues related to getting older, who’s the best fit?

I have extensive experience with grief, loss, and the issues many older people struggle with as they age. I know how difficult it can be to find a therapist who has both the experience and sensitivity to help with these issues. That’s why I joined with Cornerstone Counseling of Palm Beach. Often, it can be hard to find someone who connects with you and whom you feel comfortable with sharing your struggles. I am happy to help you.

I also hold other certifications and expertise:

I am a Certified Addiction Specialist (MCAP). My fields of expertise include: EMDR, Trauma, Addictions, Anxiety Reduction, Depression, Grief/Loss, Codependency, and Mindfulness techniques.

If you find yourself struggling with any of these issues, I am happy to provide you with the care you need.
